The holiday let experience

Your holiday let should provide a unique and memorable experience for your guests.

If you’re lucky enough to own a second property that you rent out as a holiday let, it’s important to make sure that it’s working as hard as it possibly can for you. The interiors are a huge part of that! The best short term rental experiences are ones that are beautiful and memorable, providing a fabulous base for whatever reason they’re visiting you is an essential component.

So what can you do to make that happen?

Space Planning

Make sure that you are making the most of every inch of your property. Think about what kinds of activities people are going to be doing. Are they heading to the beach? make sure there’s somewhere to rinse off beach stuff before they come into the property (a small outside tap or shower will be great). Hen weekend? Make sure there’s an entertaining area and make it Insta-worthy! Hen weekends are all about the memories and having a special backdrop will add so much value to that. If your property is family friendly think about what you could offer for children - think about an area just for them, a chalkboard wall, a games table, some crafting supplies, something they’ll remember forever! Are we talking romantic getaways? Make it a cosy love nest that they can hunker down in and enjoy some quality time together.

Consider Your Fabrics

Slipcovers are your friend! Everybody shies away from white but a white slipcover can be removed and bleached back to pristine quickly and easily. Avoid anything delicate and be willing to spend a bit more for good quality that won’t disintegrate after a few washes and more importantly doesn’t look cheap.

Colours

When it comes to colour schemes it’s going to depend on two things; audience and location. For example, if your audience is mostly couples seeking a romantic getaway you want to create a cosy and inviting atmosphere - you are not going to achieve that with neon brights! If you’ve got a beautiful location to work with try pulling in some colours from your surroundings; for example, a beach environment would be soft beiges, blues, greens, whites and greys. A word of caution though, think 'inspired by’ rather than theme. There are better ways to say ‘coastal’ than anchors and lifebuoys all over the place!

A Flavour of Local Life

What is your area known for? Cheese? Wine? Bread? The best way to make a great impression is to have some local delicacies waiting for your guests when they arrive. This will really benefit the local community as well as they might want to buy some more to take home too! Make sure there are some thoughtful touches in the fridge too, some bottles of water, maybe a bottle of wine chilling.

Another excellent way to show you’re thinking about your guests is to have some information what there is to do in the local area. Walks, theme parks, local restaurants, where is the nearest supermarket, beaches, what local landmarks are must-see? Are there any classes that they could book; wine tasting, dancing, anything fun!

Final Touches

Social media is everything! Make sure your socials are in place and think of a unique hashtag that guests can use and tag you in all those cool photos they’re taking of your place! If a guest tags you in something, make sure you reach out and leave a comment on the post - people love a responsive and friendly host.
